Obituary of Mary Faith Zimmerman

Mary Faith Zimmerman, formerly Mary Faith Kane, passed away in Chico, California on Feb. 24, 2015, after a brief illness and several years of declining physical health. She is survived by her daughter, Kathie Gutierrez of San Jose, sons Jeffrey Kane of Fresno, Stanley Kane of Chico, granddaughters Hannie Vargas of Santa Ana and Sherry Peacock of Chico. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1929, Mary moved to Arizona, where she met her future husband, Pete Kane. Living a life emphasizing religion, love, integrity, and industriousness, together they raised their three children, mainly in California, living for over 30 years in the Bay Area. Mary was an active member of the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church in the 1960's & 70's. She loved working with children, especially preschoolers, and was a nursery school teacher for many years, and an avid gardener throughout her life. She was also awarded a bachelor's degree in psychology from San Jose State University. Years after she and Pete divorced, she fell in love and remarried with Frank Zimmerman, and they lived on Bronte Avenue in Watsonville until the time of Frank's passing, when she moved to Leawood Way in Aptos. Both Pete and Frank preceded her to heaven. She was very involved with her family throughout her 86 years on earth, helping all family members with day-to-day life, travelling throughout the state. As her physical health declined, she traveled less and less and remained near her son Stan in Chico. She is greatly missed by her family, who suggest memorial contributions be made to Heifer International or any other charity deemed worthy by the donor. A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
