I came upon a print of Carol's today in my wanderings. It's a pen and ink drawing of an eagle turning back to look at the viewer in a very direct, wild, and non-nonsense way. Its ferocity appeals to me. I brought the drawing home and it's now on my wall in a place of honor. Her card was attached to the frame in the back, so I thought I'd look her up. I'd like her friends and family know that Carol lives on in her art! Much love, Amanda

This photograph captures Carol's joyful, beautiful energy. It makes me very sad to know that she has passed away. I knew Carol when she worked at System Studies. I came in to take care of the plants once a week, and I always looked forward to seeing her. She had a appealing, upbeat gentleness about her. I was astonished to learn that she had done the beautiful, stippled artwork in the building. She was so matter-of-fact about her unique and creative style. Her love of gardening was another connecting point for us. She was a nurturer and a lover of beauty. I will miss Carol, and I will light a candle for her tonight.
fondly,
Joan Smith

So very sorry to hear of Carol's passing. She was a gentle, fun loving, creative person. I first met her in the mid to late 70s when I was working for a local camera store. The store manager at the time, George Lee, introduced me to her, and I soon learned that Carol and I enjoyed using the same Nikkormat camera equipment. We'd often discuss our common photo interests, exchange tips and techniques, and share our success stories.
I also had the pleasure of working with her for many years at System Studies. As a gifted artist, Carol was able to translate her remarkable drawing talent to computer-generated graphics. Many of her fine product drawings are still being used at the company.
I'll always remember her humor, her humility and her accomplishments. And I'll remember the last time I saw her and spoke with her—we were both photographing a bike race on Beach Hill. I was cranking out gazillions of throw-away photos on my digital camera, and Carol was holding on to the final two film exposures in her trusty old Nikkormat. Any bets on who got the better pictures? Had to have been Carol, hands down.

Carol created beautiful artwork and took great pleasure in her garden. Her pen and ink drawings of wildlife were amazing. I felt she was gentle and sensitive, with a warm sense of humor. I enjoyed knowing her when we worked together.

Carol had such a great sense of humor. When we first started working together, she called me over to her desk and said, "Listen to this! Check out these lyrics." It was a Robert Earl Keen song on the radio, "Swervin' In My Lane". I had never heard the song before and it cracked me up. I've always liked that song and it has always reminded me of Carol, now more that ever. Rest in peace.

My sweet and gentle friend, I remember the fun we had at the beach and riding bikes as young girls, and watching Suns set. You took lovely photos of my children and they remember your summer back yard fires.
You were so funny Carol. I remember you telling people that we went to different high schools together. Your peanut butter cookies live on.

I was in high school when I met Carol. She quickly became my best friend. She was fun, funny, and enjoyed similar things. We went to many concerts together. I first saw Neil Young when I was sixteen at the Catalyst, Carol had a boyfriend that got us in. My first big concert was in Oakland- we saw Pink Floyd's Animals. Carol drove all over in her beetle (Bessie)she loved so much. We often drove to Big Sur and spent all day at the narrows soaking in the sun, climbing the rocks and enjoying life.
One of the things I admired most about Carol was she was an Artist. Not only was her photography amazing capturing people and scenes only imagined, but her drawings were incredible. Using Stippling (small dots) to create images. She would spend hours and hours on a piece. I still have one, the Pelican hanging in my home which I see every day.She was in Open studies back in the 80's showing her art.
Carols later years weren't so kind to her. One has to move on from their recreational vices of early adulthood or risk being swallowed up by them. Carol being a sensitive soul- artist took the ladder road...
Carol was a dear friend and I miss her, I miss her beautiful smile and gorgeous strawberry blonde hair.
Rest in peace my friend,
Love You Carol,
Nancy( Kelly) Manning
