Obituary of Richard D. Doran

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard (Rick) D. Doran Jr. is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven. He was born August 12, 1958 and died on June 9, 2015. He has left a large hole in the lives he touched. Rick was born to Richard D. Doran Sr. and Jeri Allen Doran in Alexandria, Virginia. He was the eldest of three children. When he was in eighth grade, the dead of winter, his family moved to Long Beach and even then Rick thought he had "died and gone to heaven" because of the sunshine, girls and more girls! He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, CA and attended both Long Beach City College and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon just a few credits shy of a degree in advertising. Rick was very creative. He returned to Long Beach and soon relocated to Milpitas where he had a short career in furniture sales. He then started his own company, Clean Sweep Pool Service and Consulting. He moved to Aptos, CA and started attending Twin Lakes Baptist Church where he met his wife, Teresa. After a five year courtship they married in 1988 and moved to the San Lorenzo Valley. Rick's business grew and for a long time he did service and repair. He loved being his own boss, making his own schedule and being available for all the activities and challenges of being a parent. He was an excellent father to Patrick (21) and Elliot (19). He helped coach them in Little League and Wrestling. He helped coach at Gators Wrestling Club in the San Lorenzo Valley and at the Middle and High School level. He was an excellent coach, always having something positive to say to each person as they experienced their match. He was involved with AWANA and Jr. High Ministry at Felton Bible Church. His highest priorities in life were his salvation in Jesus Christ and mentoring children to be the best they could be. He was such an encourager! He would text friends, acquaintances, friends of our children, encouraging sayings to lift them up during the day. His favorite book was "My Utmost For His Highest", by Oswald Chambers. He also served on the Boosters Board at SLVHS raising money for the only school in our district that still has the policy of no child has to "pay to play" sports. Everything he did he paid meticulous attention to detail so that everyone could have an excellent time. His focus of his business changed and instead of service and repair he focused on pool inspections. The bulk of his business was in Saratoga and Los Gatos but he would travel as far as San Francisco or Morgan Hill. He was very respected in his field. He was loyal, hardworking, generous, honest, a man of integrity, with a dry sense of humor and almost always smiling! He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Teresa Doran, his sons Patrick and Elliot Doran. His parents of Parachute CO, Richard and Jeri Doran Sr., his sister Nanci Cooley (Porter), Jeff Doran (Jodi), and a multitude of family on both sides. He enjoyed golf, fly fishing, barbecuing and guns. He was a force to be reckoned with and he did things in his own way. His personality was strong, intentions always good. His smile contagious. A Celebration of Life will be held October 24, 2015 at Felton Bible Church in Felton California at 11:30am. BBQ lunch will be served. Please bring your favorite dessert. Please RSVP to [email protected] If you would like to donate in his honor: Valley Churches United in Ben Lomond California, SLVHS Boosters or Wounded Warriors.
