Obituary of Diane Marie Neumann McCorkle
Please share a memory of Diane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, friend and teacher, Diane peacefully made her transition at her home on December 2, 2015.
She and her sister Eileen were born fraternal twins at home in Daily City, CA. At just 17, Diane gave birth to a son, Jim, and found herself a single Mother at 22. But she worked hard to support her son and still go to school. At 27, she remarried and moved with her new family to Stockton, CA; soon giving birth to a daughter, Katie. Ten years later, the family moved to Santa Cruz, where Diane found her dream home on Sunflower Lane in Corralitos. With its panoramic views, Diane considered the property sacred and a part of her spirit.
She earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Sacramento State University and continued her education throughout life - garnering multiple subject and special education teaching credentials at Stanislaus State University.
Teaching elementary school was one of her many passions - most recently 3rd grade at MacQuiddy Elementary in the Pajaro Valley District. She retired in 2009.
She was also an actress in Community Theatre, a member of various civic groups, and the Unity Church of Santa Cruz.
Along with her children, Diane cherished her Grandchildren Cooper and Riley Shank; all of whom she called "the light of her life."
A Family & Friends Memorial Service is scheduled for 2p.m. Saturday, December 5, at Diane's home. Contact Diane's son at (858) 652-2252 for more information.
