Obituary of Gary A. Lundblad

Gary Lundblad, 77, passed away peacefully at Dominican Hospital after a brief illness. Gary grew up in a small town in the mid-west outside of Cleveland. In high school, much to his surprise, Gary won an art award and scholarship in a citywide contest but he did not pursue it. After serving in the U.S. Army, Gary moved to California, attended San Jose State University and studied philosophy, creative writing and film. In the late 1960's Gary moved to Santa Cruz. In the early '80s he found himself drifting into San Francisco museums and art galleries and recognized an old urge to paint. Thoughtfully composed pictures that cause the viewer to be drawn to the discovery of the locale typify his work, of mainly local themes. Gary Lundblad maintained a positive attitude about his artwork. He had his work displayed in many galleries and shows. Gary said, "My painting investigates the dynamic interaction between artist and nature. The link with the outside world, with the greater experience." His artistic and philosopher friends will miss him. Gary's was preceded in death by his older brother, Richard Lundblad.
