Kenneth " Pinky" Cecil, 87, passed away Monday, Oct 3rd,2016 at his home in Watsonville following a brief illness. Born in Ada, Oklahoma, to Quinnie and Fred Cecil. He moved to Watsonville CA in 1942 where he later met the love of his life, Julie, at the local skating rink. They were married in 1949 and raised their family in Watsonville. Pinky worked as a truck driver for 30 years at Beacon Oil and retired from Granite Rock. He also owned and ran with his dear friend Herb Leippe, P& L Break, in Watsonville. Friday nights he would often be found at Watsonville Speedway, flagging races. After retirement you could always find him in his own garage at his home rebuilding his cars and joyfully helping friends with their projects. His life long passion for automobiles led to him being named President of the first Auto Mechanics Club in 1945 at Watsonville High. He had his first Model A before he ever had his licenses. Tires and the purr of an engine gave him the smile that could light up a room. He was well known at many car events in his green 1929 Roadster; Lodi, Beach Street, Cruise to the Coast, Lakeport,Bakersfield and Pleasanton. Bonneville, Utah was one of his favorite annual trips with the "End of the Road Gang." To all his friends, "Thank you for the memories." He is survived by his wife of 67 years Julie Cecil, son Dick Cecil, daughter Skeeter Flores(Joe) all of Watsonville. He is also survived by his granddaughter Summer Nelson of Cotati and grandson Mike Flores of San Francisco, two great granddaughters Ava and Taylor Nelson. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Cecil(Charlene) of Merced. Many cousins and many dear friends. He is proceeded in death by his daughter Debbie Hunter who passed in 2014. A Celebration of life will be held for Pinky on Oct 28th at 11:30am, Watsonville VFW, 1960 Freedom Blvd, Freedom CA. Please bring your hotrod.
