Dennis was always a friend, not allowing age difference to prejudice friendship. He had the ability to relate to anyone and be a friend. I recall his fondness for his dog: a black lab that would climb down the Cowell’s old dirt way to ocean to fetch tossed ‘logs’ nearly half its weight, over and over. Dennis entered a surf contest at the Lane back in the 60’s but didn’t advance to to finals. However, in his heat he got covered by an overhead wave for which I though we would have to got retrieve his board from the rocks. But Dennis, a regular stance survived coming out of the whitewater explosion standing goofy foot! You’ll always be in our hearts. Michael Tonini

, Brother Denny,
Thank you for being my older brother and a role model and the funny joking one. You are kind and thoughtful. You were always there for me my whole life. You were a wonderful loving husband to Anne and father to Chris and Alex.
After Mom and Dad passed, you and Anne were there to organize the annual Taku Christmas get together. Those were fun times. We would all gather around the table and enjoy the great food and games. You always had extra hidden cash for your boys and the cousins as a challenge for the left/right game. We will always remember those special times as a family.
Growing up you were always there for me in good and the bad times. One of my fondest memories is when we were in our teens and making long skateboards and skate boarding down the steep hill in Los Gatos at the Elks Lodge at night. Also, I remember when we would go surfing early in the mornings while it was still dark. You had an old green Plymouth station wagon and as we reached the summit on Highway 17 you would put the car in neutral and turn off the engine and the lights. Then we would coast down Highway 17 all the way to Scotts Valley. I was always honored to be your younger brother as you showed your Surfing smooth style and making a name in the Santa Cruz Surfing community
