Obituary of Lois Irene Chance
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Irene Chance passed away on Saturday, June 2nd, 2024.
Lois was born on December 28th, 1932, in North Bergen, New Jersey, the daughter of German immigrants, Madeline and Henry Dittmann. She already had a brother who was 6 years old, Walter. When she was a teenager, the family up and moved to California. Maybe, this was the beginning of Lois’s future wanderlust. Lois got married to a charming polo player and heavy equipment mechanic, Bob Smith. They soon had four kids. Lois also had a thriving picture framing business with her brother--- Dittmann’s in San Jose.
After the kids were raised, Lois moved onto the next chapter of her life, and married Bud Chance. They had a wonderful love story, full of adventures, books, conversation and family celebrations. In time, they partnered with Robin and John Fuchs and built, remodeled and sold many wonderful homes in Aptos. Lois had an incredible eye for color, composition and design and it showed in every home they touched.
Lois was predeceased by Bud Chance and survived by her sons, Robert and Regan Smith, step-son, Brian Chance and her daughters Robin Fuchs and Rhonda Briano. She had four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many others that considered her Granma Lois. She was the glue that held family and friends together.
Lois will be sorely missed by all of those whose lives she touched. She was an avid traveler. We wish her a Bon Voyage on this last journey. In lieu of flowers or donations, please take that trip you are considering or have put off. She would like that more than anything!
