Obituary of Maryanna Belle Burr

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maryanna Burr, 94 years old passed away peacefully, on March 29, 2013, in her home next to her garden with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Eldo (Bill) Burr, and her son Edwin Burr. Maryanna grew up in Stockton and spent summers in Santa Cruz with Lulu Carpenter, her aunt, where she met and married her husband Bill. Following WWII they settled in Santa Cruz to build their home, business and life together in their beautiful little city by the beach where they raised three children Edwin, Luanna and Malinda. Maryanna and Bill where involved in the local schools, being instrumental in taking Santa Cruz public schools to the next level to accommodate the growth and changing times of the 1950s. She was president of the PTA and an avid member of Omega Nu. She was an excellent bridge player, playing with her life-long bridge group until recently. She loved heated political discussion always trying to persuade you to her side. She also enjoyed her prize garden, going to the nursery, dancing, walking, knitting, and a good day shopping, ending with a great lunch. Maryanna's children, grandchildren and great children had a special place in her heart; she loved spending time with them, having a meal in the garden and teaching them to enjoy life, be independent, strong in their beliefs, and responsible. She always said "If you weep you weep alone, and if you smile the whole world smiles with you!" Don't let anyone tell you differently YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND SMART - JUST ASK ME! She loved to cook, and for many years had "Sunday Night Dinners" to stay connected with her family. These were special times for everyone, with old fashioned meals, the good china and stories. She celebrated this past Thanksgiving with all four generations, along with many nieces and nephews and their children. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Luanna Lee, (husband Bill Lee), and Malinda Burr, her grandchildren Bill Burr (wife Chrisa Burr), Jana Barry, (husband, Warren Barry), Lacey Chandler,(husband Shaun Chandler), Hillary Lee, Morgan and Brandon Bryan, and great grandchildren, Cassidy, Josh and Nolan Burr, Liam and Quinlynn Barry, Naya Jacobson, Lya Eggers, Tavyn Chandler, many nieces and nephews, and all who knew her. A funeral service celebrating Maryanna's life will be held Friday April 12, 2:00pm at The Oakwood Chapel 3301 Paul Sweet Rd, Santa Cruz, CA 9506. A reception will follow.
