Dear Colleen,
It felt so otherworldly to find out about Darryl's sudden passing. You & I worked together for over 20 years at Santa Cruz High, & during that time, I never heard you say an unkind word about Darryl. What I do remember is your praise of him as a "solid rock" for you, & a gentle soul as a father & grandfather. On a lighter note, I remember you describing your "Hippie" wedding to Darryl in someone's backyard. Sheepishly, you showed me your photo of that day. As I recall, Darryl wore a floral shirt with plaid pants. you were adorable in a handmade floor-length dress with more lace than I'd ever seen on one dress, and of course, you had a halo of flowers in your hair. At the time, we laughed hysterically, but later, I remembered the look of absolute joy & devotion as you gazed at each other on that precious day. I am sure these memories will sustain you through the trying times ahead. I love you. Theresa Payne
