Obituary of Harry Bartholomew

Harry (Bart) Bartholomew, 73, of Aptos CA, passed away quietly at home on April 23, 2013. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Roger and Marion Eaton Bartholomew, and also was loved and cared for by his stepmother Lillian Bartholomew, who passed away in 2012. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology in NJ and held a Masters in Material Science from New York University. He worked as a metallurgist in the semiconductor and communications industries, first at Alloys Unlimited in NYC and later at a number of CA companies including: Fairchild Semiconductor; Signetics; AMD; Trilogy; DEC; HP; Plessy Company, Ltd.; Lambda Advanced Analog; Magnitude-3 and finally Coherent, Inc, a leading manufacturer of laser applications. He retired from Coherent in 2004. Over the course of his career he was the co-inventor on several patents and prior to moving to CA he lived and worked in NYC. Bart was an avid reader of science fiction, enjoyed playing the banjo, folk and Celtic music, listener-sponsored radio, loved good beer and food, and fast roadsters that could be driven with their tops down. He will be sorely missed by his friends whose lives he enriched with his intelligence, insights, and love of music and science.
