What a beautiful service last Thursday...Nana will be missed by all! She made a lasting impression with everyone she met. She was truly the sweetest, most loving person. I will miss her greatly, but know that she is blessing us every day...and am fortunate to have known her. Love you Nana - Lori

My Aunt Karen was one of the sweetest souls I've ever met. Whenever I was enduring a hard time in my life she would always be there with comforting words and endearing cards. She had an inner strength that betrayed her outward fragility. This poem by Romi Mallik reminds me of her journey...
Feel the release in the air o' bird
Let not your wings be timid
And yield not to coziness of your nest
Nor to the sleep filled in your eyes
Deep inside you still lurks a hope
To cross the ocean of desires
To reach the shores of eternity
Though the sky is dark fold not your wings
Fear not for infinite strength lies
within you
I know the night is just about over
Fly on and on and let your wings be gilded
By the first speck of light.
Feel the release in the air o' bird
Let not your wings be timid
And yield not to coziness of your nest
Nor to the sleep filled in your eyes
Deep inside you still lurks a hope
To cross the ocean of desires
To reach the shores of eternity
Though the sky is dark fold not your wings
Fear not for infinite strength lies
within you
I know the night is just about over
Fly on and on and let your wings be gilded
By the first speck of light.
A grateful niece, Andrea Smith

Dear Mom
By Mallissa A Moore
I just thought I'd say I love you and goodbye
We will miss you dearly, I promise I won't cry.
I will never forget our talks, conversations on the phone
How happy you were to see me, when I finally came home.
You worried so much about me, I worried about you too
I know this is the hardest thing, we've ever had to do.
I know you'll always be with me, wherever I will go
No one needs to show me, I will always know.
I don't know what to do Mom, I never thought I'd lose you
Where I'll go from here, I still haven't got a clue.
I hope you'll watch over me, be my guiding light
Giving me the strength I need, to win this endless fight.
You're my guardian angel Mom, sitting on my shoulder
Whispering your words of wisdom, to use as I get older.
I don't want to say goodbye, but we'll meet again someday
We'll pick up where we left off, before you went away.
We love you and miss you Mom, you will always be in our "pocket".
Love, Terri, Khristine and Doug

Nana Karen was honestly one of the kindest, most caring people I have ever known. She was gentle and sweet....but always had a twinkle in her eye, too. My entire family was touched by knowing her and loved her. And Maddi has a lot of Nana in her that we enjoy seeing and will always think of her. I am thinking of you all.
Much love always,
Jana Schmidt

Our hearts are filled with sadness at your loss of Karen. We can only imagine the pain you feel now, but we wanted to let you know that our loving thoughts are with you.
We can only say how much we will miss Karen too. She was a loving wife and mother She was my sister. Karen was our friend. Although distance and time sometimes took us in different directions through life, my "little sister" was always close to me When we were separated by many hundreds of miles our time together was all too infrequent. When we would get together for holidays or family gatherings, however, our bonds were reinforced by the simplest of hugs, or a kiss on the cheek. Karen made us welcome no matter what was transpiring in her life, no matter how busy she was, and in recent time, no matter how much she was suffering.
Duane, you were Karen's knight in shining armor, a man to marry who would understand her and love her. She knew love when she saw it, and she found it in you. I know you will call if there is anything at all we can do, but we just wanted to let you know we are here for you regardless of day or night.
The memory of our beloved Karen will live on in all our hearts forever.
