Obituary of Salvatore Frank Basilico

Salvatore Frank Basilico, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 12th. "Sal" as known by his family and friends was the son of Frank Basilico and Maria DiGrande. He is survived by his wife Jane, brother Sebastian (Maria) and three sons Brent (Taylor), Chad (Ellen) and Brier. Sal is also survived by his three grandsons Jake, Sam and Daniel, and nephews Ken and Brad, and nieces Linda, Josephine and Francesca. Born and reared in San Francisco, he had an immense amount of pride in being a native San Franciscan and a special love of the City, where he met his wife, Jane. Sal graduated from Sacred Heart High School and continued his education in the City by graduating from the University of San Francisco in 1956. He had a long and distinguished career with the California Department of Youth Authority spanning nearly four decades. Sal finished his career working throughout the State of California as a hearing coordinator. He was also an active and dedicated member of the United States Coast Guard serving 20 years as a reservist. Sal was the last remaining charter member of the Santa Cruz POZ investment club, founded in 1971. Sal had a deep love for music and a beautiful voice which he shared with others through being a member of the Gold Standard Chorus. He was passionate about his faith and was an active member of the San Augustin Parish in Scotts Valley. Sal's love of good food was surpassed only by his love of friends and family. Spending time during the holidays or on trips with friends and family was something Sal treasured. While Sal has passed, his memory will continue through the many colorful stories of his life. Whether it was jumping from a moving train or being struck by lightning, Sal had the unique ability to find himself in unusual situations. Salvatore Basilico, you will be greatly missed. Services will be held on September 28th at 11:30 at San Augustin Church in Scotts Valley followed by a Celebration of Life reception, all are welcome.
