Obituary of John Warren McHenry

On Saturday, October 19, John McHenry passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. He was 85 years old. Soon after he was born in Kansas City, Missouri, John and his family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was there that he discovered and developed his musical gifts. He was blessed with a talent for both vocal and instrumental music and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan with a master's degree in music. After completing 2 years of U.S Army service in Korea, John taught band and orchestra at the junior high and high school level for 22 years at various schools in Michigan, Oklahoma, and California. In 1972 he made a career change after he and his wife Wilma purchased the Felton Nutrition Center. They owned and operated the store for thirty years and continued working there after selling it in 2002. During his years of retirement, John thoroughly enjoyed singing in the Montevalle Chorale, studying the Bible, working on computer projects, lunching with friends, and watching Giants baseball. One of his all-time favorite memories was the time that he got to have a one-on-one, 40-minute conversation with jazz legend Louis Armstrong. John's good-natured sense of humor and storytelling ability will be missed by all that knew him. His loving wife Wilma, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, survives John. He is also survived by his three sons, Blake McHenry, Brad McHenry, and Brent McHenry, as well as their wives and children. No services are scheduled at this time.
