Obituary of Raquel Arquello Cortes

Raquel Cortes passed away peacefully on December 13, 2013 at Dominican Hospital, surrounded by her family at her side. She was born and raised in Querendaro, Michoacan, Mexico; She came to Santa Cruz County in 1968. She worked in many canneries in Santa Cruz County for several years. She was predominantly a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Raquel is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leopoldo A. Cortes; her daughters, Rosa Calderon (Jose Luis) and Ceci Cortes of Santa Cruz; her sons Daniel Cortes (Joanne), Gustavo (Adriana) of Santa Cruz, Pete Cortes (Debbie) of San Jose and Javier (Coralia), Leopoldo (Yanelys), of Texas. She had 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at the Oakwood Crystal Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, on Wednesday, December 18 from 5:00-8:00pm. A Mass will be held on Thursday, December 19 at noon at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, with a graveside to follow.
