Obituary of Elizabeth Kauffman

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty passed on Friday the 13th, five days after taking a fall; a very healthy, strong and independent lady that lived alone, and was very alert. She enjoyed 96+ years of life; in later years a quiet and subdued, but happy life, surrounded by good friends and relatives. Her favorite pastimes were the Scotts Valley Senior Center activities, her Friday 'hair day' with her friend Kristy, and Sunday's breakfast or lunch at Molly's Cafe- many there knew her for a long time. Born in Lompoc, California on July 17, 1917, the second of four girls, she was the last survivor. Preceded in death by Alice Morrison, Edith Dominguez and Virginia Avelar. Betty worked in clothing stores and she and husband, Norm, owned and operated a popular and successful men's clothing store in Redwood City. She also lived in Santa Cruz, Marysville, Salinas and Redwood City. Norm passed away in 1995. Survivors are step-son Roger Kauffman (Natalie), and nephews Michael & David Dominguez, and Steve Avelar and one nice, Connie Surpitski, her best friend (and adopted sister), Beverly York. Also survived by numerous great nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchildren We will have a short chapel service at Oakwood Chapel (3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95065) followed by a reception at the Oakwood Reception Hall on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at Eleven O'Clock in the Morning. In lieu of flowers, help your favorite charity in Betty's honor.
