Obituary of Clare Christine Floom

Clare Christine Floom age 75 of Brookdale, CA passed away peacefully on August 21, 2014 in her home from a bronchial infection that she had been fighting for some time. Clare was a daughter, sister, aunt, grand-aunt, and friend. Clare was born in Long Beach, CA on 6 February 1939. She was the daughter of Brig. Gen. Marvin H. Floom and Joan Floom. It was a life of many moves, new schools, and new friends. From her father, she learned order and discipline. But Clare was her own woman, who walked a path of learning often from her experience she gained wisdom. This wisdom she readily shared with others. Clare was a graduate of St. Joseph's Nursing School in San Francisco, CA in 1959. Her profession of nursing shows her caring nature in tending to her patients and through many of our own families personal medical crisis. She practiced nursing for over forty years in emergency rooms, intensive care units and psych and drug and alcohol rehab units. She worked in San Diego, at the Veterans Administration hospital in Palo Alto and Stanford Hospital. In the latter years she was a visiting nurse for Stanford Hospital. Clare was sober and an avid member of Alcoholic Anonymous for 39 years. She loved to garden and spruce up her home. She had a passion for music and animals. She enjoyed playing the piano. Long into her adulthood, she sought to improve her talent. From Clara Sivewright, her grandmother, she learned to knit. She continued to nurture this skill, again producing items of beauty. Clare is survived by her siblings M. Diane Conrad and Marvin H. Floom Jr., three nieces Elizabeth (Conrad) Patania, and Victoria (Conrad) Bailey, and Theresa (Floom) Brooks, two nephews John Paul Floom and Christopher Floom, and several grandnieces and grandnephews who brought her great joy and for whom she prayed.
