Obituary of Joyce S. Rube
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce S. Rube, longtime resident of Scotts Valley, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2014 after a year long illness. She is survived by her daughters Loanne Rube (Kerry Besmehn), Lisa Saldana (Ray) and Teresa Doran (Rick). She was preceded in death by her son Roger and her husband Robert, her parents Paul and Lola Schreiner and her sister Phyllis Compton. Joyce also leaves seven grandsons: Baltazar Monar, Christian Rube, Alex Rube, Steven Saldana, Robert Saldana, Patrick Doran and Elliot Doran and a great grandson Robert Paul Monar. Services have been held.
Born in 1929 in St. Paul Minnesota she was embraced into a large extended family. She was raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico and schooled at Texas State College for Women in Occupational Therapy and Special Education. She did internships at Denver, Letterman Hospital and VA Palo Alto. She met her husband Bob in Palo Alto and they married in 1952. She taught severely disabled children at Conyer School in Tulare, later at Chandler Tripp School in San Jose, becoming the department head for Occupational Therapy. She joined her husband in private practice at West Valley Physical Therapy in San Jose. Joyce was a founding member of Star Fellowship, an aftercare program for people in recovery. She celebrated 36 years of sobriety living one day at a time, thanking God each day for the blessings He has given her. Bob and Joyce moved to Scotts Valley in 1977 and retired in 1983. She was a phenomenal teacher and therapist, a wise and comforting mother and grandmother. She loved her home and enjoyed her independence. Family gatherings were her joy and talking on the phone to family and friends. She also enjoyed her quiet mornings sipping coffee, watching the birds eat from the feeders, spending time with her pets, and reading her devotional books. She would reflect on God's Word and love for hours, pray for the people in her life and do her best to practice the unconditional love she received so freely from God to those in her life. She always encouraged us to do our best. Some of her favorite sayings were: Love is all there is; My arms are around you: One day at a time: I love you, I love you, I love you! She will be greatly missed, cherished in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, your gracious donations to Valley Churches United (VCUM.org) or Star Fellowship (StarFellowship.org) are greatly appreciated for their amazing work... Thank You!
