Dear Jan,
I am so sorry to read your parents have passed. I know it has been many years but some of my fondest childhood memories were spent with you, in and around the neighborhood, our homes and the beach. Playing with Silver in the backyard. We still laugh about your mom hearing my grand dad answering the call of his name, "JIM". Mrs. Gordon knew the call was coming from Maynard, our mynah bird. However, Grandpa didn't and eventually got angry because he kept answering and got no reply. :) Your mom was laughing the whole time. I miss those times. I was in total awe of your Dad and your Mom patiently tolerated our shenanigans. If you read this, I would love to hear from you.

There were so many things I didn't really know about Myra until I read this obituary. Myra was not a person who talked about herself as far as I can recall, but she was funny and always kind to me.
As my mother's younger sister she was part of my life from the time of my birth. I have many fond memories of my aunt Myra. Christmas holidays together with her (and the rest of our extended family) and many other occasions were special. I remember spending Easter week with her family years ago in San Francisco. While visiting I discovered the city, and Easter lilies, SO beautiful! During that visit I always felt welcome. Also there were many visits with my mom in her Santa Cruz home. Good times!
Another memory Myra has left is of her wonderful chocolate cake. We always called it MYRA'S chocolate cake and it was served many times over the years. I still have the recipe.

Dearest Karen,
I was so sorry to hear that you lost both of your parents recently. In reading about both of them, you were incredibly fortunate to have come from two such exceptional individuals. I imagine that you and your brothers and sisters learned by example that you could be anything your heart and mind desired and lead a rich and varied life while on this planet. My thoughts are with you and Christian as you move through this inevitable sorrow. I wish you peace and warmth in your memories.

Myra was my grand aunt on my grandmother's side. Strongly resembling my grandmother and married to my grandfather's brother-- with my grandfather and great uncle strongly resembling each other as well-- it made for some lively, somewhat doppelganger-ish family get-togethers.
She and my grandmother also had other similar qualities (they both, for example, were definitely determined to do things right). But, as in many family dynamics I suppose, my grandmother, the firstborn, tended to be the more serious of the two, while Myra, the next in line, often felt free to play the joker, at least with us kids, never hesitating to make a silly face or offer up a funny line.
Since childhood I've always enjoyed being around adults who can sometimes take themselves less than seriously, and Myra fit the bill perfectly. So thank you, Myra, for that silliness, for that laughter. You, in your own small way, helped extend that period in young people's lives when all is magical, all is delightful-- and that is a wonderful offering.
You will be missed. Along with other relatives I've lost over the last dozen years, you helped make my life richer-- and likely many, many other children's as well-- with your gift of lightheartedness to the younger generations.
Greg
