Found General Harpainter’s old business card from when he was deputy DA for Santa Clara County. He was an acquaintance of my dad, Colonel Eli Gardner. My dad attended San Jose State with him and both went on to be MPs. Dad passed away in December of 2009 in Columbus, Georgia. My mom, Fannie Dee Gardner, immediately declined and passed away in 2014. I’m sorry for your family’s loss. Sounds like Gen. Harpainter was a fine man. —Delores Gardner Thompson

I didn't know Bob very well but his quiet demeanor was a very attractive personal asset as I talked to him over the past several years when we met monthly at the San Jose Police Benefit Association meetings.

Brig. General Harpainter was truly a great man. His service to his country in the Armed Forces and service to his community as first a Detective with the San Jose Police Dept. and then as a Deputy District Attorney are testament to his commitment of selfless service to others.

Bobby and I were car partners SJPD circa 1956, working car #10, Willow Glen, 7PM-3AM. Bob was promoted to Sgt, and after 15 yrs on the PD passed the bar and went to the DA's office for the next 22 yrs. (I stayed at the PD for 30.) He was an attendee to the monthly PBA (Police Benevolent Assoc) meetings for the past several years. Sat at the "octagenarian table"...those over 80. A single bloody mary was his choice of beverage.. A truly GREAT guy and a sudden loss to us all. Always in the Veterans Day parade in Nov each year with is military uniform and shinning star. He and I remained "car partners" for the last 60 yrs or so. Last saw him in July...but he passed in Aug.11, a few days before our monthly meeting. Never will forget those foot chases after the ":bad guys"...who never got away. AHH....youth. RIP Bobby...until we meet again. Bob Moir Ret Lt SJPD 1954-1985 and friend of Bob 's. forever.
