Obituary of Robert Allen Duffy

Robert Allen Duffy, 70, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Dominican Hospital. Born in Berkeley, California to John Edward and Jewel Elena Duffy. Bob (as he was known by family and friends) attended San Jose State University where he met Maureen Miyoko who would become his adoring wife of 44 years. After graduating with a degree in Economics, he spent 2 years in the U.S. Army stationed in Georgia and later in Okinawa, Japan. Bob worked as a federal employee for 27 years in the Internal Revenue Service, and 4 years as the Federal Employees Union President until his retirement in 1999. He is survived by is wife, Maureen Duffy; Daughters, Heather Duffy (and Stephen Davis) of Santa Cruz; Liane Duffy (and Dayne Gingrich) of Santa Barbara; Grandchildren, Philippa Davis, and Simon Davis, and Logan Gingrich; Brother, James Duffy (and Ana Falldorf); Sister, Elena Bennett (and Sumner Bennett); Brother-in-Law, Ron Miyoko (and Mary Miyoko) and many nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed exploring every aspect of the world around him. Be it a spontaneous scenic drive, a family camping trip, or his dream trip through Ireland and England with Maureen, he took it all in with an open heart and adventurous spirit, and always with a camera around his neck. Equipped with an insatiable curiosity and infinite patience, Bob had a unique ability to fix or figure out just about anything. He passionately enjoyed reading, golfing, photography, nature walks, garage sales, and the "News" in all its forms. Everyone who knew Bob appreciated his gentle, caring, and generous ways. He was lovingly devoted to his family and friends. One of his greatest joys was being "Grandpa Bob" to his three grandchildren. His laughter and playful spirit was a gift to the children who adored him. Bob's sense of humor will be well-remembered by all who knew him and his quiet loyalty to his friends will long be felt in their hearts. He was a good man who lived a good life and will be missed beyond words. It was Bob's hope that we all love, honor, and celebrate one another in life. He requested no services be planned.
