Obituary of Laurie Annette Boze
Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Services will be Saturday, March 17th for Laurie Annette Boze, a native Santa Cruzan and life-long county resident who died Friday morning in Santa Cruz. She was 51.
The daughter of a Santa Cruz Police motorcycle patrolman and a County Bank/Comerica Bank loan officer. Laurie, like many other local baby boomers, was born in the oceanfront Sister's Hospital on West Cliff Drive. She liked to joke that she was "born in a parking lot", which is where the old hospital site, across the street from the Dream Inn Hotel, eventually became and is today.
Laurie attended DeLaveaga Elementary School, Branciforte Junior High. She was active in Brownies and loved animals. She attended Harbor High School Class of 1978. Laurie's teen-aged summers were spent sunbathing, playing volleyball and hanging out with friends at Sunny Cove Beach in Live Oak, always one of her favorite places. Laurie loved being from Santa Cruz, and she was proud of her policeman father's record of service to the city.
Laurie worked for numerous local businesses over the years, restaurants, as a home health aide and child care provider. One of her favorite jobs was gathering seniors from around the county for parties as a hostess-driver for Cindy's Celebration. Laurie enjoyed sewing, gardening and arts and crafts projects of all kinds. She was also an accomplished baker and candy maker who enjoyed throwing birthday parties, gift-giving, bike riding and just about any activity she could do with her three children.
Laurie is survived by her daughter, Brittany Moll Azevedo and her husband Frank Azevedo of Modesto; her daughter Alyson F. Beebe of Phoenix, AZ; her son Steven "Stevie" Traylor of Santa Cruz; her mother Marian Boze Chaney and her step-father Warren Chaney of Scotts Valley; her sister Lynn Carey and brother-in-law Bruce Carey of Newman; her brother Mitch Boze and sister-in-law Cathi Boze of Catheys Valley, CA and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Laurie was preceded in death by her father Frank Boze in 1982.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at Santa Cruz Memorial - Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz, near Graham Hill Road. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fallen Officer Foundation, P.O. Box 67281, Scotts Valley, CA 95067, or to your favorite charity, are preferred
