Obituary of George Kenneth Michaud

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Friday, May 12, George Michaud of Corralitos, California, died peacefully, quickly, and with grace, surrounded by his family. He expressed so much love and gratitude for everyone and everything in his final days. George spent his early life in Fort Kent, Maine and New Britain, Connecticut. After high school, he moved to California to join his brother, was drafted, and served from 1965 to 1967 as a medic with the 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers. After his military service, he briefly worked for Kimball Systems, division of Litten Computers. During this time, he formed a strong bond with a circle of artists and seekers in the Hermosa Beach community who were "dropping out," and who looked for guidance from a Buddhist they called "Monk." This was when George first discovered his innate talent in the arts. He ventured north, eventually settling in the Santa Cruz area, where he developed his talent for wood working, initially as a sculptor and later expanding into crafting fine furniture. In 1973 George met Michelle Ehret (Mikki). They were married in 1979, and together raised two daughters, Briana and Osaya. George was a big-hearted man who loved nature and the outdoors, hiking, camping, visiting hot springs, playing chess, golfing, cooking,"shooting the breeze" and dancing to the Blues. His favorite places were Corralitos, Tassajara and Mayatrea, the property he and Mikki co-owned on the Coast Ridge in Big Sur above Esalen. George cherished his long-term friends and was always ready to make a new one. He took great pleasure in raising his daughters, coaching their soccer teams, participating in the PTA, encouraging Briana's passion for music and theater arts, and Osaya's musical and athletic accomplishments. He was always ready with his opinion and guidance. George was preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father Silvio, and his brother and sister Patrick and Patricia, (twins). He was beloved by his brother's four children: Tommy, Terry, Susie, and David. He is remembered with love by Mikki, his wife of forty four years, his daughters, his son-in-law Tim Buxton, and his extended family of nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and neighbors. One of his greatest pleasures in life was watching his daughters' lives unfold and welcoming his granddaughter Oona. A celebration of George's life will be held at a later date to be posted on his Facebook page. Donations in his memory can be made to the Environmental Defense Fund, Earthjustice or an environmental cause of your choice. The family would like to express their gratitude to the beloved oncologist Dr. Richard Shapiro, who gave George twenty more years of life, and to all the kind caregivers at Dominican Hospital.
