I'm a docent at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab and Roy and I worked the same Thursday afternoon shift together for over ten years. There were some days when he and I were the only docents there, one of us leading a tour while the other one watched over the touch-tank and the exhibits and then switching roles for the next tour.
Roy loved coffee and it was my routine when I came on duty to brew a big pot that he and I would share for the rest of the afternoon.
It saddens me that we will no longer share our Thursday afternoons.
We also shared the experience of being retired science teachers and would often talk about our teaching careers.
He was a good man and I will miss him.
I will always remember Roy as a friend you shared an interest in theater. Until health issues forced him to stop, he could be found at most Shakespeare Santa Cruz performances and many others in the area. I will also remember him for his wide-ranging interests and lively discussions of issues of the time. He will be missed by all who knew his kind and gentle spirit. R.I.P., Roy.
