Obituary of Fausta Elena Nell

On Thursday, October 12th, 2017, Fausta Elena Nell passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Scotts Valley. At 103 years old, Mrs. Nell lived a long and full life. Born in Trujillo, Peru to Ismael and Carolina Otoya in 1914, she lived through two world wars and countless global changes. When her mother passed, she was 15 years old, and she raised her youngest brother as her own child. This started a life-long custom of devotion to her family and friends. Elena, a devout Catholic, could always be counted on by her loved ones to come to their aid at sign of trouble and illness. At 29, she married her beloved 'Richard,' Ricardo Nell, born to German immigrants who fled from the war to Peru. When her husband fell ill, Elena devotedly nursed her husband, never living his side, until his death in 1967. Elena enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling. Until her 90's, Elena traveled back and forth to Peru. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she is forever their 'Nena' and 'Amor.' She is survived by her four children, Ricardo Nell of Freedom, Fernando Nell, Jimmy Nell and Carmen Bazan, all of Scotts Valley; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She joins her husband Ricardo Nell and her three grandsons Miguel Bazan, Nick and Raymond Nell in the kingdom of heaven. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, October 15th, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial, 1927 Ocean St. Ext. Services, with interment to follow, will be Monday, Oct. 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Santa Cruz County for their wonderful care during the last months of her life.
