Obituary of Stanley E. Espinosa

Services will be held Monday for Stanley "Stan" E. Espinosa Sr. who died on January 13th in Marysville, CA. Stan was born October 20, 1927 in Santa Cruz to Alexander & Zelma Espinosa, whose family goes back several generations in Santa Cruz. He attended local schools graduating from Santa Cruz High School. Stan served eight years in the Army including several years in the Reserves. After active duty Stan returned home to marry childhood sweetheart Dolores Reader, a neighbor of his family's for many years. Together they had four children; daughters & son in laws - Cheryl & Michael Vaz and Christy & Dave Swanson of Santa Cruz, sons Stanley Espinosa Jr. of Hawaii and Steve Espinosa who unfortunately preceded him in death in 2017. They have blessed him with 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In his younger years Stan was an appliance repairman in town. He worked for many years at the Ford Assembly plant in Milpitas and later enjoyed a long career as a Maintenance Supervisor at the local hospitals. Stan was well known in the community for his many years of volunteer work in youth activities. Stan coached Minor League & Little League baseball teams. He was the first coach to select a girl into the minor league try out "drafts". He was the president of the Santa Cruz Pop Warner Football League for several years. Many years after retiring from active participation in youth sports Stan was still receiving calls and letters of thanks from the kids whom he coached. Stan loved participating in sports as well as coaching. He was an excellent bowler, having bowled several 300 games. He also enjoyed playing in local Softball leagues and fishing. He enjoyed spending time at the casinos and his greatest enjoyment was spent supervising and selling at the Santa Cruz Skyview Flea Market. He did this until moving in 2005. In 1984 Stan married his wife of 34 years Mary Magee. In 2005 Stan and Mary moved from Santa Cruz to Marysville where they enjoyed their retirement years together. Stan is survived by his wife Mary; step-daughters Kathy Santos, Tammy Steen, Judy Bruce and his sister Pearl Gamble. He is also survived by 15 step- grandchildren and 13 great step- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Alexander "Billy" Espinosa Jr. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Jan. 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial Park, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Stan's memory be made to Santa Cruz Little League or Pop Warner Football programs.
