I got to know Liz when editing one of the spiritual newsletters in which she had a regular column. She had a wonderfully curious mind and a warm heart. Though I never met Liz in person, her e-mails certainly enriched my life. Like others who knew her, I will treasure her memory.

Liz Stewart and I were e-mail friends for more than 10 years and had one wonderful in-person visit together when I was in California 8 years ago. We got to know each other well over the years, and it was a shock to learn that she was ill. She had just telephoned me a few days before entering the hospital to tell me her computer was down. She knew I'd be worrying about her silence for several days. She was right: I was, and now I sorely miss her cheery, almost daily e-mails. They always brought light into my world, just as her presence added to the light in the world.
Sincere condolences to Liz's family; she spoke often and lovingly of all of you in her messages. I wish you all well.

Dear beloved family of Liz Stewart,
Liz and I shared list membership on a number of lists for over ten years. Her depth of spiritual understanding, her wisdom, her broad views and her love were just so very apparent in all of her posts. Over the years, I have deeply valued her friendship and I will miss her greatly.
Blessings of this holy time of loss in your family,
Cecile Betit

I was Liz's Book Buddy. Every Wednesday I got to see a window of Great Books through the Santa Cruz City Library. I love Liz.

Liz was truly an amazing woman. Her desire to keep on learning was an inspiration to many. I visited with her quite often and when I went back to school she enthusiastically encouraged me. She kept in touch by email . . . I loved her emails. When I was at school we discovered our mutual love for Howard Thurman. I introduced her to my Howard Thurman professor and they shared memories of knowing Dr. Thurman personally. I will miss Liz and her insights.

Dear Family of Liz Stewart,
My heart goes out to you in your loss of your beloved mother/grandmother/great-grandmother.
When I met Liz - many years ago in a Centering Prayer group that we joined at about the same time - I was struck by the loving, positive energy that radiated from her, and was carried through her contributions to the discussion we would have at the beginning and end of our contemplative sessions.
In one of those discussions, I happened to quote from a book by Sister Macrina Wiederkehr - I think it was "A Tree Full of Angels" - and Liz became excited. Soon she not only had read the book that I leant to her, but all the other books by Sister Macrina in print.
Eventually our group faded away, but Liz stayed in touch via notes and email, and never ceased to thank me for introducing her to Sister Macrina's writing.
Liz, in turn, introduced me to gratefulness.org, Reading the site's quote for the day has become a part of my daily routine. I often think of Liz and say "Thank you!" when I do, That won't cease as long as I'm alive and gratefulness.org continues.
