I was so sorry to hear that Jim, such a benevolent man, has left us. I was delighted but not surprised to read in your excellent obituary of his good deeds after retirement, of his effectiveness as a steward of our priceless California coastal environment. As a former member of the Los Gatos Planning Commission when Jim was on the Town staff , I can also attest to his capability, responsibility, and kindness in his professional capacity. So I am sure that he was also a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to you all, and even a caring owner of Gus the Wonder Dog. He has been released from his pain, and he will be a part of you always.

Jim was such an inspiration as a conservationist for wetlands. I learned from him on the Elkhorn Slough Foundation Board and admired him very much. Judith Connor

Ellie and Sons of Jim:
My condolences on your loss.
I worked with Jim on many occasions during my terms on the Los Gatos town council.
Jim was always cheerful and helpful. I wish I had know about his deep family roots in Santa Cruz. If I had I would have been happy to hear the history. I know he will be missed by many.

Ellie and Family: It was a real shock to see the obituary about Jim. He and I shared many happy hours on the tennis courts at Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club, and at
NAS Alameda. We also commuted together to Alameda while serving in the same unit.
Also the great beach parties with Fremont friends. He was such an effective city engineer for Los Gatos. When we told him there should be a traffic light at Lark and Winchester where our kids had to cross to get to Berry School, it was installed shortly thereafter. So now we regret not spending more time with you since our move to the Terraces. We will definitely attend the Memorial Service on June 2nd. May our love and prayers be with you at this difficult time. Mardie and Al Dailey

Having shared many years of volunteer service with Watsonville Wetlands Watch, I saw first-hand Jim's dedication and passion for local environmental issues. I was always amazed at his energy and enthusiasm even when not well. Jim was an amazing man and an inspiration. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Ellie & Family:
I was so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Although, we knew his health was challenging we thought he'd always come through. I'll miss our many years of treasured friendship that was passed through to us through our parents. Jim's years of dedication and steady guidance serving on the Executive Board of the Santa Cruz Seaside Company contributed greatly to our growth and success that will continue on for years. The entire Seaside Company Family loved seeing Jim and Ellie through the years at annual company events. Jim will be missed by so many of us. Thanks for all the great years together Jim.
My heartfelt condolences to Ellie and your family.

I will miss you at our local "big time" tennis tourney now called the Nordic Natural Challenger at Seascape Tennis Club in Aptos. We saw some big name tennis players and of course all the up and coming stars over the years. It was always great to see you there Jim. You loved tennis and were so knowledgeable, friendly, always with a smile. I also enjoyed the times I would see you down at the Rio Del Mar tennis club. Thanks for being a good pal Jim.

Jim was a true gentleman. We played tennis together at the Rio del Mar Club. He was a good listener and always made me feel like he was glad to see me. You could never tell he was suffering; he never let on. What a fine example for us to emulate!

It will be difficult not seeing a tennis-ball-throwing Jim in Robin's park with gallant Gus...but I know the quick peripheral shadow I detect walking Sam there now will be Jim's presence, along with any and all stray tennis balls to be found on the ground.
My sincere condolences to Jim's family - including Gus.
