Dear friend,
Thank you for showing us how to live life with a full heart and a cup overflowing with faith...your laughter still echoes in my head. By your incredible, yet effortless, example you inspired those around you to be better wives, mothers and friends. In addition to being an amazing mom, you were a loving second mom to countless others...your kindness and endless warmth made every child feel special and loved.
Yet, your wicked sense of humor reminded us that the angel we knew was actually human!
Remember to give my brother-in-law a slap when you see him and then one of your awesome hugs!
Never once complaining, you showed us how to squeeze every drop of joy from each imperfect day and always search for the rainbow. The world seems so much darker since you left us but I know the heavens are brimming with laughter and joy upon your return home. I shall never watch a sunset without thinking of you and the light you brought to our lives.
Thank you for illuminating our world while you were with us and leaving such amazing reminders of your presence in your beautiful daughters.
Love,
your friend

Oh Diane, all the laughter you brought to my life!!
I will never forget the Catechist Christmas party at San Agustin when everyone brought a white elephant gift to exchange.
You brought in your perfectly wrapped gift and placed it under the tree. A little while after, Father Matt showed up at the party. In a panic, you came up to me and begged me to remove your gift. Knowing you and your wonderful sense of humor, I told you there was no way I was removing that gift.
One by one, people drew numbers and in order took a present from under the tree.
Your face was priceless when Father Matt's turn came up and he chose your gift.
You squeezed my arm and ordered me to steal the gift from him. I thought to myself "This is going to be good..." and told you no way.
It was to the most hilarious laughter that Father Matt opened his gift and it was Pope Soap on a Rope.
That gift ended up getting passed on party after party for years.
I will miss you my friend, but, I know God is enjoying your incredible sense of humor in heaven.

To Rob, Jackie, Jessie and Jamie,
I am so sorry to hear of Diane's passing -- I know you have both had health challenges over the years, but my image of you, and Diane especially, is always one of healthy vigor and engagement in life and personal relationships,
The world will be a poorer place without Diane for she so enriched us with her humor, grace and beauty! At least we can all keep our memories of this special lady, and use them to inspire the very best in ourselves and our own lives.
My son Drew, who is in Africa with the Peace Corps and has very limited internet contact, asked me to especially convey to your family that he is deeply saddened, and will forever have the fondest memories of time spent in the Joyce household throughout his middle- and high school years. As we all know, these are tricky ages for kids, but Diane always made everyone feel at home and loved! What a wonderful woman.
Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time. Diane will be missed indeed.
With love,
Anita, Drew and Julia Dilts

The few times I spent with Diane she left a lasting impression on me with her big smile and kind heart. She helped Jackie, Jessie, Alaina and I begin our lives out here in Boston when we moved into our new house.. and helped us scrub down one of the most disgusting apartments that I have ever seen to make it into a warm livable home for us.
Diane, we will miss you every day and I promise to be a support to your daughters in any way I can. My love and thoughts go out to the entire family.

How to express the gratitude and love I feel for Diane? I wish I would have told her...now I can only hope she can feel my words. Diane was a mother to Chrissy when I was unable. When I was in the grips of despair and loss, she was there for her, as was the whole Joyce Family. I am so saddened, yet I feel so blessed to have had her in a round about way in my life. When the girls,( Jackie and Chrissy) would talk about Diane and Rob, and the things they did with them, movie nights, games played, and evenings just shared in their home...I felt so happy for them all. The love they all had for each other and the way they included Chrissy in the family gave me such joy. She will be missed so very much...but the memories of the love she had for her family will be alive, forever. Please know I am here for each and every one of you. Love Laura

I am blessed to have many wonderful memories of Diane. But this one will always stand out in my mind. This story sounds weird....but this really happened! Diane and I were in Los Angeles together for a church conference. There were many different class offerings and about 8 of us went together. We would go to whatever classes we signed up for on our own and then we all had dinner together and shared about our classes. It so happened that when I arrived at my second class of the day Diane was there too...in the front row. I went and sat next to her. We were excited that we were both interested in a Priests class on the sacred life of Mary. He was from Ireland and had a very strong accent. ( as many of you know Diane was not only hilariously funny but also great at accents) So the priest comes out and goes to the podium to speak. There was about 200 people there. He tells us he wrote a poem about Mary and was going to read it to us . He begins and says, " A poem of Mary titled The Placenta." YES!! You read that correctly. We looked at each other in horror and grabbed hands and tried to keep from laughing hysterically all at the same time. Needless to say it went on and on. Speaking only with our eyes our we agreed to get out of there!!! We took of as quickly as possible up the very long center isle. When we met everyone for dinner that night and they asked about our class, Diane with a perfect accent ,recited the first paragraph!!! As was a gift of having Diane for a friend we all laughed till it hurt.

My fond memories of my sweet sister, Diane, who may not have always been so sweet to me...
Over the last few years when Diane would come to Lowell to stay with Mom for a week or two (and I was living with Mom, helping her out) she wouldn't be in the house for 24 hours before she began making her presence known. I would come home from work looking forward to relaxing in bed and watching tv and I'd walk into my room to find pots, pans, an ironing board, dolls and various other things on my bed. There would be things in my pillow case like spatulas.
During one visit I made a nice New England boiled dinner for Diane. After dinner was over I started to clean up but Diane insisted that she would take care of everything. The next day I went to my room and noticed a faint odor. On the second day the odor was stronger so I changed my socks thinking that might have been the problem. On the third day I was in the kitchen and Diane walked up to me and said "Dick, what kind of deodorant are you using?" I asked why she was asking...She said when she walked by my room she noticed it stunk. I commented that I noticed the same thing! She said "I don't think your deodorant is working!" Upon further investigation I found the remnants of my New England boiled dinner sitting in the pot under my bed...cabbage, turnip, potatoes, onions and ham...sitting under my bed in the pot...fermenting!!! When I asked Diane about it she gave me one of her smiles and said she knew nothing about it.
I'd give anything to have Diane play one of her pranks on me again!
Big Brother Dick

Diane,
One of the greater joys that Our Lord has bestowed upon us is our ability to remember. Pleasant memories can be played over and over again in one's mind. And I, my sweet sister, will forever cherish all of the memories that I have of you and take solace to the undeniable fact that you are in heaven watching and caring upon us all with your over flowing and endless compassion. And whenever I gaze into the sky and find the brightest star, I will know that it was made even brighter with your contagious smile and my face will most suredly brighten with happy, joyful, and loving memories of you. Everybody grieves in their own way and I am certainly no different, but a so called 'goodbye' to you is not in my vocabulary, for you will never ever leave my heart.
Sweet Dreams,
Kirby

I know I didn't know Diane for very long, but it only took the first time meeting her to know that she was a very special person. I walked into the Joyce home as just one of Jessie's friends from college, but I was instantly treated like family. Diane always greeted me with a smile and an offering of some home-cooked meal. She even made sure I wore a sweater out if it was too cold, haha. Maybe these things seem small or ordinary to others, but they meant a lot to me. I didn't know Diane as long as most people, but you didn't have to know her long in order to see that she was a loving, sweet, and charismatic person. And so funny too. I can genuinely say that I was touched by the kindness of Diane, or Queen DJ, and her beautiful family. I am truly lucky to have known her for the time that I did.

Diane, you are grace personified. Thank you for our too short friendship. You lighted my life with the joy of your presence, your laughter, your wit. You comforted and uplifted me with your steadfast trust in God, your belief in the goodness of people and your concern, support and prayers for my family and concerns. You will continue to be my go to "prayer warrior". You made me a better person, literaly changed my life, perhaps saved my soul, by your sincere, kind, but direct, admonition. You are a blessing in my life...and I am only one of a multitude. -Walt
