Obituary of Robert Halterman

Robert Halterman passed away at home after a long and happy life. He always loved the community of Santa Cruz. He enjoyed helping family, friends, and neighbors. Bob was born in the small town of Roy, New Mexico to parents Jesse and Kathrine Halterman. The family soon moved to San Francisco, where his mother's (Kathrine's) family was from. He grew up there, and then moved to Santa Cruz in 1938. There he meet the love of his life, Betty, a lifelong Santa Cruz resident. They married in 1940. During WW II, he returned to the bay area, to work as a ship builder at Kaiser shipyards. After the war, he returned to Santa Cruz, to work many years as a building contractor. Later in life, he became a construction specialist, and traveled the nation and the world. He loved Santa Cruz history, and always had great stories, about local people, and past events in our area. He served as past president of Pogonip, and the Seabright Association, and was a long time member of the Santa Cruz Yacht Club. He was a member of Rotary, the planning commission, and coached Little League. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty Halterman, and his two sons, Rick and Jack, and daughter in law, Margaret Alameda, all living in Santa Cruz. He was a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed. Our family wants to thank Adriano Anbrada, for his great compassion and care in the last months of Bob's life. We would also like to thank the Palo Alto Medical Foundation's Palliative Care unit, and Hospice, for all their care and guidance.
