Obituary of Della M. Sadamune

Services will be Thursday for Della M. Sadamune who passed on Friday, March 15th. She was 102 years old. Della was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Lewis and Cora Bell Ridge. She graduated from Sheridan Wyoming High School in 1928, where, she earned many awards, including membership in the National Honor Society. Della was the schools drum major; she was also active in sports and drama. At age 10 she won a classical music award on the piano. Della worked for the Wyoming Press where she was the circulation manager and society editor. Moving to California in the late 1930's she worked in several civil service positions; US Post Office in Oakland, US Agricultural Department and the Army Procurement Division of San Francisco at Fort Mason in San Francisco. During World War II she was with the Army telegraphic service at Fort Riley, Kansas. Moving to Santa Cruz after the war Della was the secretary to the City of Santa Cruz Building Inspector as well as assistant to the Civic Auditorium manager. At the Civic she produced many talent shows for City employees. She was popular in many area night clubs in the 1960's. She was an active member of Isabella Rebekah Lodge #17, Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge #131, Pomona Grange #22, Aptos Grange #800, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Retired Public Employees Association, Elks Emblem Club #421, Santa Cruz Bible Church and a life member of Musicians Local #346. Della was a talented musician who served as the musician in many of the organizations in which she was a member. Della is survived by her nephew Larry Davidson of Tacoma, Washington, several great nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Alfred Sadamune who passed away in 1988. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 21st, 11:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers donations in Della's memory may be made to your local SPCA or The Salvation Army, 721 Laurel St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060.
