Dave and I met John in 1978 at Village Fair Antiques. John encouraged us to open a shop as he needed the "competition" ha ha. Mine and John's birthday were 5 days apart. Since I was the oldest, we would tease about me being the BOSS for being older.
We will miss you John.

Was so sad to hear this. I was so fortunate to get to be re-acquainted with John when I moved to Aptos. What a gentle, sweet, honest, wonderful man. Shanna, it was a privilege to meet you and see the happiness between you. I'm sooo sorry - you and all the family.

I always looked forward to seeing John at Village Fair Antiques. Always a friendly face and smile. I bought several antique pieces from him; he refinished several of my family pieces. I always think of him whenever I look at them and admire the careful work he did. He had so many interesting pieces about which he always had pertinent information to share. I miss Village Fair and was hoping he would be able to set up another venue to share his interest. My condolences to his family for their loss.

What a gentle man. I first met him at Gleasons antiques on Brommer and 17th! Wow time has flown by!! Now we are all in the 4th quarter of life and are reluctantly going into overtime. John was a Saint in many ways! A smile that could transcend your mood into a calming and relaxing state, after a hectic day! Thank you for always giving me the time of day and talking about your latest finds or sharing your trade secrets! Honesty was natural, because he had a Good Soul! For 28yrs, after I finished my route at the Aptos Post Office, I would take my afternoon break walking around and conversing with the dealers. John was a soothing way to end my day! He inspired me to get into business and after 40 yrs plus I am still dabbling in it and doing shows! Thank you John for showing me another way to survive and get lost into something I love!!!! Your furniture still adorns my house!! You'll be missed by all who knew you over the years! Hope we run into each other again and can talk shop!
Give my regards to Gypsy Julie, Don Frick, and Jim Hunt and All the other antique legends who have passed! To your family," Honest John" and significant others, What a Great Man who carried himself through life with dignity and true kindness!! You'll be missed!

Please accept my condolences to Johns family, Iam so sorry to hear of his passing. I first met John when he came to Santa Cruz, and worked at Don Starr Motors, he was a mechanic, I worked in the office, a mutual friend of ours Fred Wacaser was one of john's closest friends here in santa cruz, i would fix dinner for all of us, and John was a good cook himself, he was like a brother to me, he was so shy, kind, soft spoken we remained friends thruout his life here in santa cruz, i remember when he told me he was getting married, then some time would go by and i would run into him and he had a son named michael, My son's name is Michael as well, sometimes he would have me over this was before he was married, and he would cook Tamale Pie, it was fantastic, His love for his mother was tremendous he was a awonderful son. I never met his wife, met Shanna at the village a long time ago, When John first got into Antiques, he would travel to the midwest in his truck and pick up stuff lot of it painted furniture, we had antiques in common, I remember he lived on rigg st and it was full of his beautiful furniture, he had such a wonderful talent, morse chairs, dining room tables and chairs, dressers, he loved the hunt as well as restoring something had painted and bring it back to it's glory, He went thru a lot of stages in his youth, but he made a name for himself in Santa Cruz County, we would pick up like no time had passed when we would run into him, such a loving soul, RIP My Friend you will always be remembered, your forever friend Kandi.
