Professor Freeman was my very first professor at UCSC over 20 years ago. As a first generation college student, I struggled to figure out how to navigate college life. I didn't pass the Subject A exam at the time, and therefore had to take a different Core Class designed to help bring my writing up to college level. She encouraged me, worked with me, and helped me develop a strong foundation for my college career and beyond. In many ways, she showed me that professors can be is approachable and relational. She was the type of professor I still aspire to be. Rest in power, Professor Freeman!
