Colin & Thelma Mackenzie and their three children lived next door to the Nittlers since the summer of 1969. Our son, Ian, while riding a bicycle was struck by a truck, broke his leg, and ended up in a bed in our family room. Cherry, wearing a smile, knocked on our front door to welcome us and brought a book for Ian. What a lovely, welcoming gesture!
Our two houses are separated by a hedge. The Nittlers trimmed their side and we trimmed our side. Our washing machine is in the room next to the hedge. Occasionally, I had finger-trouble, and the water drained beyond the hedge. In such cases, I called Cherry and apologized. She answered my call in a cheerful neighborly way and I assured her that it wouldn’t happen again. (Which it did). In recent years Wade was a Rotarian and so was our son Ian Mackenzie. Cherry invited me to become a member of the auxiliary, it was a grand group of ladies and we all enjoyed each other's company.
