Dallas Ryan Ferguson, 37, of Dallas, TX, passed away on November 18, 2023, in Santa Cruz, CA. He was born on July 21, 1986, to Renee and Johann Ferguson. Growing up in Glen Ellyn, IL, Dallas found a path to the positive in any situation. He had a special character that helped him create strong relationships – a determined personality and charm; a broad smile and hearty laugh; and a loyal heart.
He was a fantastic pitcher, his high school baseball team nicknamed him “Wheels” because of his long, ambling gate when running. After graduating from St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (Delafield, WI), he then traveled to Kansas for further education and work experience, and eventually made his way to Texas.
In 2013, Dallas went to work for Junk King, and ultimately moved into helping run the family business location in Dallas, TX. He thrived in the “never a dull moment” atmosphere and enjoyed working with the crew, the customers, and especially his parents.
If you ever couldn’t find Dallas, just check the kitchen – he loved making snacks, creating a pizza masterpiece or helping his family make dinner – and yes, he even helped with the dishwashing. He loved traveling and spending time in the great outdoors. In truth, these came second to his relationship with his son and loved ones in California.
Dallas was unconditionally loyal to both friends and family. His heart was always full of love and he had an incredible ability to connect with people. He was generous with his time and was always there to try and help a friend in need. He was an incredible brother, uncle and godfather, who would do anything for his family – especially spoil his little nephews with video games.
But most importantly, Dallas was an incredible son who dedicated his adult life to lifting up his parents. Beyond working in the business, he was a constant companion and caregiver who doted on them both. He loved playing chess with his father, bringing a ritual morning coffee to his mother and watching mystery shows as a family before wishing them “sweet dreams” and giving a warm hug before going to bed every night.
Dallas is survived by his mother and father, sister (Erin and Grant Zehner and sons), brother (Kyle and Katie Ferguson and son) and son (Kaden Khodabandeh).
A memorial will be held at a future date in Dallas, TX, at Preston Road Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Parkinson’s Voice Project, a cause near and dear to Dallas’s heart:
