Obituary of Janice Kathleen Martin

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janice Kathleen Martin, born and raised in Willow Glenn, Ca. passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones in Ben Lomond, Ca., on January 3rd, where she lived happily for the last 27 years of her life. She and her husband of 55 years, Big Al (Alfred L. Martin) enjoyed a successful restaurant career together, starting with Big Al’s Gas House in Palo Alto (60’s), Pacific Steamer in Cupertino (70’s) along with Jan’s Valley Inn, Portola Valley, Ca (80’s). She was loved by all who knew her. Her favorite time spent was with her family at their cabin in Capitola, Ca. Always fashionably put together with painted nails and a coiffed du, she was a woman of class, wit, and a culinary gift to cook. She always entered a room with a bright smile along with an infinitely positive outlook on life. In 2009, she met Gary Smith at the Presbyterian Church in Felton, widow, and widower, who enjoyed great dinners, drives and many years of a blissful companionship. She is survived by her two daughters Peggy Gilbert (Greg Gilbert), Cindy Hernandez (Rey Hernandez), grandchildren Chelsea Gilbert, Tyler Gilbert (Caitlin Gilbert) and Krewe Carter Gilbert (great grandson). She is preceded in death by her eldest daughter Karen L. Martin, and husband, Alfred L. Martin. Per her wishes, no memorial service was requested. In her honor, her family wants a friendly gathering at the Felton Presbyterian Church on January 28th from 11a-12n in Taylor Hall.
