Obituary of Lois Ruth Carle
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Carle passed away peacefully in her Scotts Valley home surrounded by her loving children. She was 91 years old. Lois was born in Los Angeles, California to Donald and Margaret Stitt. She attended Wheaton Academy for high school and Wheaton College where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education. Lois also attended UCLA for her Master’s degree in Education and became a full-time high school teacher in Fontana, CA.
On a trip to visit her parents in Santa Cruz on Easter break in 1956, she was spotted in church by local building contractor and WW2 veteran Norman Carle. After a long-distance courtship, she moved to Santa Cruz to marry Norman on December 21, 1957.
She began teaching at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill until the birth of her first child. Lois and Norman raised their four children in a home Norman built in Carbonera Estates. Once her children were all in school, Lois resumed teaching both junior high and high school and having completed all of Cabrillo College’s advanced math courses she became very popular as a substitute teacher for Santa Cruz County.
Lois loved to sing and she lent her voice to the Twin Lakes Church choir for over 40 years and the Spring Lakes choir for 15 years.
She was a life-long fan of many sports, both on and off field. She coached softball and ran the snack bar at Harvey West Park for many summers. She was an incredibly talented seamstress, famous for sewing matching outfits for special occasions for her children and beautiful quilts for all her grandchildren.
In her golden years she stayed busy by participating in activities at Spring Lakes Park as well as serving as a deaconess at Twin Lakes Church.
Throughout her life Lois volunteered her time and money to countless organizations.
Lois leaves behind her four children Linda, Rhonda, Steven (Danelle), and Brenda, her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 2015.
A celebration of life will be held in Monschke Hall at Twin Lakes Church on Monday February 12th at 10:00am.
The family of Lois would like to thank Visiting Angels, Hospice of Santa Cruz and Dr William Morris of Sutter Palliative Care for their compassionate care during her final days.
