Dear Arthur Family, My sympathies go out to you all. It must be a most difficult time. I remember Jon at a very young age being so mature when I came to "babysit" him many moons ago at your home on Alcazar. We talked for the entire time I was there and I found him truly engaging and thoughtful even then. He was a special young man then and as I have read from many of the entries here that he continued to be. This was in large part due to his loving and wonderful family. - Michelle (Kassen) Majjasie, Morgan Hill, Ca

Dear Sheila, Des, Gloria & Susie - I am so very sorry and sad. It's been 8 years since I last saw Jon and didn't know he was ill. He will always, as you all will be, fondly remembered by me. I wish there was something I could do or say to make this time easier for you all. Love, Heather (Nelson) Palmer

Jon...you were the best thing that ever happened to Dina and I am glad that you had the time that you did together. I know that Dina never thought twice about being there with you through everything cause' she said hey...you were her guy. And what a guy! I am glad that I was honored to know you and I am glad that you are suffering no more. Miss you though! Love Kimberly and Jim

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur, my deepest sympathies on your loss. It was ages ago that us kids all played tag, hide and seek and our many other escapades up and down Alcazar...but some things seem like yesterday. Deepest regards, Trish (Hill) Stokes, Meridian Idaho.

Sheila, Susie and Dina, Dave and I are sending our deepest sympathies to each of you. I did not know Jon well but the little time I spent talking to him was always a pleasure. I believe God's purpose for Jon is now finished and he has taken him home to rest and become again the strong your man. I know you each will miss him but hope that you will take a moment every now and then to thank the Lord for each day you did have. We send you our love and prayers and most of all our blessings.
Dave and Phyllis Tripp

Jon,
You touched us all and are one of my oldest friends having first met some 45 years ago. You will forever occupy a special place in my heart and I cherish each and all of the many adventures we shared.
Our earliest shared experience was learning to ride on the same bike as kids in South San Jose. Later you moved to Santa Cruz and then after high school, I did too and we renewed our friendship. Surfing, attending local concerts, spending time with our wide circle of friends, throwing the Frisbee on the beach and of course the occasional Wednesday night sail with your Dad were the things that occupied the summers of our youth.
You had a special zest for life unrivaled by anyone I knew and your enthusiasm was infectious. I don't know who's idea it was but hanging out at the Catalyst one night listening to a mediocre band, an idea was spontaneously hatched to go grab our surfboards and hit the waves under the guiding light of the bright full moon.
I remember well driving home to grab our boards and hit the waves at Pleasure Point at that midnight hour. It was a crazy idea but we did it anyway. We surfed until 2 a.m. when you broke a leash on a set wave leaving you treading water boardless. I paddled over and on the next wave, we both rode my board tandem to the beach where we recovered your board and headed back up the cliff to our car.
Santa Cruz was not nearly big enough for you and there were other places to see. As a teenager, you moved to Hawaii. Hawaii wasn't big enough either and you moved back. Soon, you were off to Brazil. Brazil wasn't big enough and after a year, you moved back but the call of the open road still brought you to other new lands and shared adventures. I was fortunate to have shared some of those adventures with you.
As our lives inevitably grew complicated with the passing of time, new responsibilities and obligations, our time together grew less frequent but we were still brothers in each other's hearts. And a brother you will remain in my heart.
I love you Jon and I will forever miss you.
Joe Tobin
