Obituary of Jon Arthur

Our dearly beloved Jon age 49, passed away at home after his long battle with melanoma cancer. He accepted his illness as a challenge with dignity and courage. he fought hard, never giving up. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his mother Sheila Arthur, his father Desmond Arthur and his wife Gloria, his sister Susan Arthur and her husband Keith Henderson, and especially by his true love, Dina D'Onofrio who stood by his side every moment of his 3 plus year ordeal. He will also be missed by his extended family and many close friends. Jon was born in San Jose and attended Allen and Gunderson schools. He then moved with his family to Soquel, where he attended Soquel High School and Cabrillo College. Boating was the family hobby, and at an early age he was introduced to swimming and water skiing. His move to the ocean added surfing to his life. His next step was to take his surf board, love of cooking and his Culinary Arts degree to Hawaii and then on to Brazil. During his eight years or so of travel he worked as a Master Chef in fine restaurants, explored new horizons, surfed and touched the lives of all those he met. Upon returning to the Santa Cruz area he continued as a chef in fine dining at Chaminade in Soquel. He then moved into the technology world with Borland International, where his world travel continued, as he climbed the ladder to become a successful Vice President & Director of Borland's Interbase Business Unit. His career at Borland spanned almost 20 years. Jon was a gentle giant, with his tall height, broad shoulders and a huge soft heart. He was a truly caring, loving man. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his many friends, and will always be in our hearts. A Celebration of Jon's life will be held at the Seascape Golf Club, Saturday, October 27th at 3pm, 610 Clubhouse Dr., Aptos.
